Phone Volunteers Needed for Hurricane Beryl Relief

Dear SPDR & Presbytery Leaders,

As you are well aware, Hurricane Beryl has impacted millions of residents across our Synod and beyond.

I wanted to make you aware of a volunteer opportunity in the event you wish to invite your presbytery members to consider supporting disaster response efforts from wherever they are:

Phone Volunteers Needed for Hurricane Beryl Relief

The Synod Partnership for Disaster Recovery (SPDR) is partnering with Crisis Cleanup to support residents impacted by Hurricane Beryl. Crisis Cleanup connects disaster survivors who need property cleanup assistance with organizations who can help. The Crisis Cleanup hotline is staffed by volunteers who serve from home as they have time. Survivors call the hotline, phone volunteers take the call, and enter the information on the Crisis Cleanup website. There are nearly 700 cases entered into Crisis Cleanup, and more than 170 phone calls are waiting for a response! Spanish-speaking volunteers are urgently needed.

To volunteer, you must have:

  • A computer with internet access (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge internet browser).

  • A phone (cell or landline).  Your phone number is always kept anonymous from callers.

  • Computer skills to proficiently navigate websites and enter accurate data while speaking on the phone with a survivor.

  • Availability to take phone calls as the hours volunteers choose to set for themselves. Volunteers are NOT required to schedule work times or fill quotas, but having some sort of schedule is important. One hour a day for seven days is better than seven hours a day for two days straight. Be prudent and pace yourself to avoid burnout

To start the process to become a Crisis Cleanup Volunteer today, email Kathy Lee-Cornell, kathy.leecornell@synodsun.org or call (214) 390-1894.

Attached is also a social media graphic you can share as well. Thank you for sharing this important message with your presbyteries and networks!

Grace and peace,

Kathy
